Vancouver’s Commercial Drive was shut down Wednesday night after numerous gunshots were heard in the area and police invaded the neighborhood.

Evan Downing was going home on Commercial Drive just after 10 p.m. PT when he heard about six gunshots.

“My soul’s still going,” he stated. “I come from a small city, so nothing like this ever occurs.”

Rachel Stout was at 4th Avenue and Commercial Drive when she heard gunshots. 

“Many officers were in the area right away,” she said.

Nikhilesh Nayar, who stays on 5th Avenue close to Commercial Drive, says he saw police in the hallway of his flat building when he opened the front door of his team.

“Something in my body just told me perhaps you should go outside and have a smoke and see what’s going on,” he stated. 

After he went outdoors, he heard gunshots and saw sparkles from the shots back inside the quarters.

CBC requested police on the scene for details on the case, but they would not provide comment. An ambulance was seen coming on the scene simply before 11 p.m.

Police on scene told the road would re-open, although they did not select when. The street stays barred as of 11:50 p.m.
