Nooksack river overflows flooding Abbotsford:

Abbotsford Mayor Henry Braun says he’s more concerned about increasing waters in and throughout his city as a set of atmospheric rivers remains to hit B.C.’s South Coast.

During a press conference on Sunday, Braun stated Whatcom County in Washington state had suggested that water has now raised above a dike on the Nooksack River, and it’s blending between the river and a nearby road.

Braun assumed the water stream to reach Abbotsford later Sunday, as existing sandbag barriers are not sufficient to prevent the Nooksack River.

“It’s gonna go over Main Street in Everson, Wash., and then it’s headed here. There’s nothing to stop it after that,” Braun told. Source – cbc.ca

The city has got 100 millimetres of rainfall this weekend, snow is blending, temperatures are increasing and more extra rain is prophesied for the next days. Braun stated water levels in the Sumas Prairie lake bottom have increased 75 millimetres since Saturday.

Surrounded flooding has taken over the Clayburn Village region of Abbotsford, which continues under an evacuation warning, and Braun states water levels have moved around 450 millimetres.

Teams, including military personnel, proceed to sandbag regions likely to flooding and other mitigation work is being done. Braun stated the city has everything it requires to be ready, acknowledgements to support from the rural and federal governments.

He said the city doesn’t require more sources — rather, they must wait and observe what appears next.
