Hundreds of thousands of Canadians are going abroad despite Omicron

Canadians going abroad despite Omicron: 

Despite increasing problems across the world last fall over the new COVID-19 variant, Omicron, Sandy Long, and her husband left on Nov. 28 for a 10-day holiday in Mexico. 

Long stated they felt relaxed traveling because they intended to take rigid safety precautions. 

Plus, the couple hadn’t moved abroad for two years due to the pandemic and desired to get away.

“Life is short,” stated Long, 58, of Richmond, B.C. “We ought to feel some warmth, and we skipped Mexico.” Source – cbc.ca

Many Canadians travelling Abroad despite Omicron

It seems numerous Canadians have a similar mindset toward journey these days despite Omicron’s swift and furious spread, which provoked Canada to repost its advisory against non-essential international trips the previous month.

Statistics Canada totaled 742,417 Canadian air-passenger arrivals returning home from abroad in December. 

When changed to account for current changes in following air travel, that tally was nearly six times the number of arrivals for the same month in 2020 and almost half the capacity for pre-pandemic December 2019.

The growth in international travel is possible to continue. According to the latest data published by the Canada Border Services Agency, there were 216,752 Canadian air-passenger arrivals to Canada during the week of Jan. 3 to Jan. 9.
